What is Navodaya Vidyalaya?
Navodaya Vidyalayas are fully residential, co-educational schools run by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. They offer free quality education to talented rural children from Class 6 onwards, with facilities including lodging, uniforms, textbooks, and meals.
There are currently 654 functional Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) across 27 states and 8 Union Territories, including 31 schools in Odisha.

How to Apply for Navodaya Class 6 Admission 2026?
Eligible candidates can apply online for the JNV Selection Test 2026 using any internet-enabled device. Here’s how:
Step-by-Step Registration:
- Visit navodaya.gov.in.
- Click on “Class VI Admission 2026” link.
- Fill in candidate details like name, gender, district, Aadhaar/APAAR ID, etc.
- Upload:
- Passport-size photo (10–100 KB JPG)
- Signature of candidate and parent
- Residence and birth certificates
- Submit and take a printout for future reference.

Eligibility Criteria
General Eligibility:
- Must be studying in Class V during the 2025-26 session in a government-recognized school.
- Must be born between 01 May 2014 and 31 July 2016 (inclusive).
- Should be a bonafide resident of the district where the JNV is located.
- Only first-time applicants are allowed.
Rural Candidates:
- Must have studied in Classes III, IV & V from a school in a rural area of the same district.
Urban Candidates:
- If studied even a single day in a school located in an urban area in Classes III, IV or V, the candidate will be considered urban.
